STUDY: Wow Factor

Eating your words.

This morning, I got up to study God's Word. I read about Jeremiah, who also wrote about enjoying God's Word. He called it a "burning fire shut up in my bones”  (Jer. 20:9). Earlier, he had said "I found Your words and I ate them" (Jer. 15:16).

I understand those emotions. Sometimes when I'm writing about a truth I've found in the scriptures, I stop and cry—especially when it speaks to a specific need or question that I have for that day.
The nuggets I uncover there are so incredibly profound and timeless. I have the word "WOW" written beside many, many verses that I have discovered.

When my children were young, one night I had a Bible study with them on my bed. When we finished, my daughter commented on how relevant what we had talked about was to today. She left the room, and my son remained on the edge of the bed, his arms crossed over his Bible on his chest. He looked up at me, patted his Bible, and said, "I love this." Then he, too, left the room, but the depth and truth and eternal quality of God's Word remained.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" (Heb. 4:12).
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path"  (Ps. 119:105).

I could list so many other verses that confirm Jeremiah's—and  my—emotional reaction to God's Word. But today, I'm especially thankful for the one that promises us that not one of them will ever return void (Is. 55:11). They apply to today's problems and the ones that are to come. They are embedded in my children's hearts to guide them through their adult lives. They are new and fresh and personal to everyone of us as we dig into them. They are still providing the WOW! factor.

And they are just waiting for the hungry to eat them!
